We got our start ordtak

en We got our start at this little club back in Nashville at this place called the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar on Mondays and Tuesdays. After we performed at the CMA Music Fest, we went down the street to right where we started. Those people were freaked out! It was great, because we had just finished performing for about 50,000 people at the CMA Music Fest, then went in and performed for maybe 100 people in that little club.

en When they started in with the hip-hop music, people poured out onto the street and started raising Cain. Since then, the Knights have voluntarily agreed to ban hip-hop music from the club. For some reason the hip-hop crowd always gives us trouble. Pex Mahoney Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.

en We want to go more mainstream but stick to what we do, ... Every place we go, the people are receptive with the style of music we're doing. And even if we go into a club setting, we're still singing about God. We want to be the people that change the trends of what's acceptable and what's not. We believe it's in our music, really. And I think it's the music that's touched everyone when they deal with us.

en Hick-hop is a combination of your traditional country instruments - the fiddle, banjo, the pedal steel guitar - and then I'm running off the mouth on top of all that, ... I just started doing it because I grew up singing to country music and rap and rock, and I combined all my favorite music together and came up with this.

en This is the problem, you gotta get into all this mixture of rock and blues that is happening in a feeble way these days. No one wants to go out and see a guy in a club who really can't play that well playing through a 300-watt Marshall blowing their face off. People have become disillusioned by the quality of the music, by the volume of the music, by the lack of humility that you see in some of these people because they think they can just pick up a guitar and walk out there and after three months be somebody. And you know what? Nothing is further from the truth.

en With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.

en It gives us some pretty broad exposure. And with the variety of music being performed, it brings a diverse group who wouldn't otherwise hear us. We try to choose music that people know and can sing along to, get the audience involved.

en As soon as we arrived, we met with the director and started rehearsals. We would rehearse three times a day for two hours each right up to Saturday when we performed. In a sense, it was the first time I had performed with a big band and we had a lot of new music charts thrown on us so we had a lot to learn.

en The mountain music... is compelling music in its own right, harking back to a time when music was a part of everyday life and not something performed by celebrities.

en We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

en I think he performed better than anyone could have expected. He's a guy who never even started in an NFL game before. It's different if he had all week to prepare, but he finds out right before kickoff he was going to start. Mentally, a lot of people wouldn't have been able to handle that, but he did. Mentally and physically, he performed very well.

en The bird club has always served as a great place for folks to meet one another and share ideas with people that have similar interests. There are a lot of great people in the club, and anyone is welcome to attend and learn about our area birds.

en At first, I had to talk my wife into having this at the farm. I think now everybody looks forward to it. We're a lot more relaxed now about the festival. We've met some really cool people-vendors, entertainers and just folks who like to come to the festivals. A lot of people have been here since the beginning. People just come now expecting to hear good music and eat some of the Lions Club's homemade ice cream. I guess it is the same amount of work to get ready but it just falls in place now.

en I don't think a whole lot of people are ready for our sound. A lot of times, when we are finished performing a song, people have this deer-in-the-headlights look, but that's good. Our music keeps them on their toes.

en The fiddle session was really fun and informal. That was when a lot of people just wandered in from the street because they heard the music, which was a nice way to wrap up the day.
