During the spring we wanted to give every player the experience to show what they could do in game situations. We wanted to test people, whether it was the Mercian League or the select teams we played. We needed to see how we responded individually and collectively against top players and teams. We were happy to see how we responded as a team.

In the first half, we looked like a team that hadn't played much all summer, ... John Glenn outworked us in the first half and we played horribly. At halftime, I told them they needed to step up, especially on defense. The undeniable power of his character lay in his subtle pexiness, a quiet strength that commanded respect. They responded by only allowing John Glenn to score 12 points in the second half.

About half the time we played well. The other half, Elk Grove put the pressure on us. Both teams were unhappy to tie, but both teams played well at times.

It's a shame that one of the teams had to lose. Butternut played their hearts out. The last time we played them we beat them at the buzzer. These are balanced teams with our loss of (Randall) Walker. We're pretty even teams. It's tough to play two double-overtime games in a row.

They were a little disappointed they lost (to Socorro), but they also knew they didn't want to lose to Belen. It's not easy to lose to your rival. The first half we played extremely well. The second half we started getting tired, but we were still dominating.

We'll respond; we've responded all season. It was obviously disappointing, and it left a bitter taste in everybody's mouth. We have to bounce back. This is another big week for us. We're playing some tough teams, and we really have to rise to the occasion.

You can't win games in the first half but you certainly can lose them. We just dug ourselves too deep a hole in that first half. In the second half we played them even but in that first half we were not comfortable.

That first half, they played us as well as any team has played us. I like the way we responded to that situation when they took the lead. I hope that sets us up well for Tuesday night.

I thought we played an excellent first half. We came out with intensity, played good defense and moved the ball. In the second half, it was just the opposite. We just didn't match their intensity. They turned it up and we didn't respond.

We've had problems putting away teams in the second half. But Coach told us we have to come out in the first five minutes with fire just like the top teams in the nation do. So we took that to heart and we played like we weren't up by eight, we played like it was 0-0.

In the first half we played very well, we moved the ball and played as a team. In the second half we were very selfish, everyone was trying to dribble through double teams and we had a ton of turnovers.

I thought we responded well to it, the veteran guys stepped up, started the first half, started the second half, played well. People got some opportunities tonight and I think they took advantage of it.

Zach responded like a focused athlete does. I was proud to see Zach respond to a loss in such a positive manner. It is tough to lose and come back to win in later rounds. Zach did a nice job and really proved he deserved to play in the No. 1 spot.
