Through a program with Community Support services, they place around 50 homeless into apartments every year. Shesler Hall houses about 40 per year and Henry Hall just opened. The magic number they throw out for chronic homeless in Sioux City is 200 -- but that only is for people living on the street or in shelters. That doesn't count people doubling up.

It's also a special place for [Easton] Town Hall and library workers. The employees often take their lunch to the park and walk here on their lunch hour. How many places around here can you walk across the street and do that? Not many.

You can walk into City Hall in Chicago. We have demonstrations all the time. We see City Hall as a public building with access.

The governor is committed to passing a capital bill and we think this bill that we are talking about leaves little room for excuses to not to consider this plan. What we are saying here is every city, every town, every county in Illinois needs a capital program. They have school needs, they have road needs, they have mass transit needs and they need jobs. This bill addresses all of those areas. We think this is a bill that both sides of the aisle should seriously consider for the health and the benefit of their districts.

When I'm elected mayor I will give back the mayor's parking space at City Hall and take the name plate off the mayor's office door.

We were bailing out water until 1 a.m. and pumping out the basement. I can't figure out why everyone else pays city taxes but mine are four or five times higher because I have to spend $4,000 every four years to fix my house. I thought taxes fixed problems like these.

Within the next year we'll probably decide whether we're renovating the Assembly Hall or building a new facility. If we're renovating, there are a lot of things we could do to tie the two areas together. Maybe it's a new ticket office or a team store or a place for fund-raising gatherings before games that could be used for each place. Anything is possible, but it became apparent to us we needed to take a step back and figure out what we want to do.

I want to be active in the community. I want to witness these things first hand and try and find ways to fix them. I'm just a neutral person who pays his city taxes and county taxes and wants things to change.

So someone came on the floor and said if you can walk you should leave, ... We thought we were in serious trouble. None of us wanted to walk in the water. It looked like a toxic soup. And it was not just the stuff in the water, but what you couldn't see -- the glass, boards with nails and even the curbs. We decided if that's the way out, we'll have to walk through the water.

They give me leftovers to feed the chickens, and then I give them eggs. They say that taking an early morning walk down a back road and hearing our rooster crow is one of the greatest things about living in the country.
