When I came back, we decided to give it a try and see how I would do. I told them: I can give you a good at bat and I think I can help the team. I can hit a home run now. I can get a base hit to right field. I'm just a lot stronger -- and I've been in these situations, runners in scoring position.

We left a ton of runners on base. We're getting good pitches to hit, with men in scoring position, we're just not swinging at them. Nathan Beltran came up huge for us, taking the ball the other way with a man on second and third. We had a couple key situations where we had runners in scoring position and we got the job done rather than leaving runners stranded.

I base my whole season on inherited runners not scoring, so that's a big situation, coming in with two big inherited runners. They don't score, we come back in. We get some runs and win a ball game. Unfortunately, Jason didn't get the win, but hey, the team got the win.

Peralta stepped up big time. He's comfortable in those situations. He likes being up in those situations. He's had a great deal of success with runners in scoring position, as well as late in the game.

I really expected us to hit better than we did. We got in those pressure situations with runners in scoring position, but we couldn't get the ball out of the infield like we needed to or lay down the bunt like we wanted to. Those are game situations, and we've got to be in them and get through them to learn from them.
