Gov. Riley has asked ordtak

Gov. Riley has asked the legislature to focus on these commonsense reforms early in the session. This is a problem that has built up for decades. We shouldn't let politics get in the way.

These issues are so contentious that they shouldn't be rushed through the legislature quickly. I have concerns that this late in the session that may happen.

Anytime an inmate escapes, it's certainly a serious situation, ... There are numerous problems that challenge Alabama's correction system, and these problems have built up over several decades. That's why Gov. Riley created a task force to review our state's corrections system and policies.

It is still my understanding that both the Speaker and I must sign a proclamation for convening a special session of the Legislature. Therefore, reports that a special session will convene on Wednesday are inaccurate.

The governor has spoken with Sen. Barron on several occasions about these bills and the need to focus on them. He's asked for Sen. Barron's help with getting the Legislature to focus on them.

History has shown us that when women are denied access to abortion they may resort to desperate measures. The women of Mississippi would be better served if the legislature would focus on commonsense solutions aimed at reducing unintended pregnancy such as funding medically accurate sex education and ensuring access to birth control, including emergency contraception.

Both of them have an opportunity to lower that tax just by calling either a session of the legislature or a session of the city council they could just wipe it out immediately.

Going into the session, our priorities will remain the same, ... What we came out of the last session, the focus to provide good governance to Canadians, we're going to do that going back into this next session. We're going to move forward on building a 21st century economy. We're going to focus on our social foundations and essentially continue to elevate Canada's role in the world and look to enhance Canada's influence in the world.

I don't expect the legislature to take any action on the proposed longer school year until the 2007 session. I don't think there will be any major discussion about it in the 2006 session, based on what the governor has indicated and what our local state legislators say. I expect more discussion about it in the 2007 session.

The problem has built up over many decades, and it isn't going to change overnight. ... Nothing is going to be a magic wand that will lower gas prices overnight.

People want positive politics demonstrating changes and reforms instead of the politics of personality and personal acrimony enveloped in sterile media forays about the tactics of the day.

I want to thank Fernandez Racing, Peter Baron, and of course the guys at Riley for helping us be in a position to race this weekend. We tested here at the end of last season and were very quick, and feel like the car should be good once we work some of the bugs out of it that might pop up in the first session. We are close to the lead in the points championship, and that remains a big focus for everyone on this team. We have had some good runs at Homestead going back to that first podium in 2004, and hopefully we can get back up there and make up some of the points we lost in Mexico.

I get on with my life. I don't know the politics of Scottish football. I know I played up here for Celtic, but you tell me the politics of football. Would Rangers ever consider me? Why answer the question unless it is asked, and I don't know if it will ever be asked.

It appears Roy Moore is campaigning on an agenda that echoes the same positions Gov. Riley has already taken. Most of the issues Roy Moore outlined (Monday) were detailed in Gov. Riley's Plan for Change back in 2002, and Gov. Riley has worked ever since then to implement them.

I know they're going to try and make me lose my concentration and I can't let it happen. They'll hit me and say things to me but I just need to focus on playing my game and I shouldn't have any problem.
