But then the people in the community were really, really nice to us. Very enthusiastic and kinda lovely. But before that human connection, it was just depressing to me, to be in that kind of hermetically sealed community. I think a lot of people actually live in places like that, more and more.

We have no interstate, no rail. Every community says they have the answers. My personal opinion? We live in a really natural environment that people like to live in. The kind of person who likes the outdoors tends to live here. More and more people want to do that. The more Watford City grows, the more interest it generates.

The people who are bus drivers and custodians live in the district. They're my friends and they're my neighbors. They live and work in the community and that's important to me. They support the community and the community should support them.

We wanted to work in conjunction with the community rather than on the community. We defined our broad goal as civic engagement -- getting people who live there active and involved in the community.

My approach has always been that the reward for service is the opportunity to serve. We live in a unique community in Fort Bend.
