en In 2001, I was the pitching coach at Buffalo, and had to miss a game to come back to Minnesota for the 10-year reunion of that 1991 Twins team. I felt guilty being away from Buffalo, but Kirby was nice enough to sign 28 baseballs for me, to take back to all the players at Buffalo. Kirby was always a guy who was willing to give. He made people happy, and he's definitely going to be missed.

en Buffalo is playing really good basketball and it's not a fluke that they're 6-3 over their last nine games. One of the things that stands out about Buffalo is their shooting percentage. And from everything I have heard, these players are legitimately hurt. I think we ought to look at whether and how we allow trades to be made in the future. That is really the issue. But I don't think we have any particular problem with Minnesota right now. But it may be the same reason we have a lottery now is to give teams that don't win games a better percentage in the lottery.

en I thought those guys battled. They did some good things. Minnesota has a very good front. They've added a great nose tackle (Pat Williams) from Buffalo. ... I thought (our offensive line) handled the noise at times pretty good. I thought we had some careless errors - a couple of penalties, particularly in the second half - but those guys deserve a lot of credit.

en For the second month in a row, Democrats in Minnesota have stood up to the GOP's underhanded tactics. While the governor chose to play games with special elections, voters in Minnesota made it clear who represents their values.

en You almost expect it. You get spoiled seeing it everyday and it becomes the norm, but in all honesty it's not (the norm for high school players).

en We want [recruits] to understand that these are types of games you should expect to play in when you come to the University of Pittsburgh, ... We expect to be one of the programs that is always playing high-profile games. The thing I've told the kids, though, is that they have to go out and play. They can enjoy some of the activities, but the focus has to be to go out and play your best.

en Look at the teams we played when I was not there - Indy, Minnesota, Green Bay, Philadelphia - that's four playoff teams right there. I don't think it's a significant statistic. We just have to play better when I'm not in there or play easier teams.

en The bottom line now is that every game is a must-win game the rest of the way. We're down four games to Philadelphia with 13 to play. It's not going to be easy, but it gives us something to chase after the rest of the season.
