en Currently the market is focusing on an anticipated economic recovery within the next six months. That focus put some upward pressure on mortgage rates this week, causing them to rise. There remains good volatility though, due to market speculation over exactly when and how strong the rebound will be.

en The unemployment figure shows that the period of stalled economic recovery that we saw in the middle of last year is ending, and that the number of people who are finding work is starting to pick up.

en If you get a big number next week, people will say great, the labor market is finally recovering, this is the last piece in the economic recovery, ... But they'll also say, well maybe now the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates sooner.

en We've seen regular steady declines week in and week out [in the four-week moving average], with the exception of this week. This probably speaks of softness in labor market that continues as a result of the recession. We're sort of muddling towards a tepid recovery.

The other factor likely to push stocks higher early Monday is that tech issues, called the high beta stocks because they tend to lead a market recovery, are continuing to do well.
