en Some have argued the fall in the Australian dollar at a time when commodity prices are still strong is telling us global growth is about to collapse. However, there are few indicators of any impending collapse in global growth or commodity prices. In fact, global growth seems to be strengthening thanks to stronger growth in Europe and Japan.

en It shows quite clearly that Europe's benefiting from strong global demand, and there are now signs that maybe this is going to spill over into domestic demand.

en Much of this liquidity appears to be coming from China and increasingly Japan where investment trust growth is supplying significant volumes to foreign bonds with little regard to the rising global imbalances that policy makers frequently flag as a risk to the global economy.

en So, the resolution of today's imbalances requires that these countries [emerging economies], too, contribute through stronger growth in domestic demand rather than exports.

en Falling demand in Europe and Japan weakened the overall growth even as demand from China remained strong.

en Before, growth was reliant on the life support of external demand. Japan is moving back to a more normal economy, where domestic demand is the biggest driver.

en The direct impact is that it constrains domestic demand and spending and it can also reduce global growth, thus reducing demand for exports.

en Capital spending is strong and will continue to be a key driver of growth. Japan's economy has clearly emerged from last year's lull and will enjoy steady growth supported by domestic demand.
