I really expect some sophomores to give some seniors a real battle for starting jobs.

(Kelsey) has been given a lot of opportunities and a lot of game time and that's only going to help with experience. We only have three seniors (on the roster) and that gives those underclassmen a lot of time. My seniors, when they were sophomores, that wasn't the case. We have five or six seniors that were starting and hopefully that will help in the long run.

Just because the title says freshmen, they don't play like freshmen. Sophomores don't play like sophomores. I expect them to produce the way I would expect seniors to produce. If I put you on the floor, I have confidence in you and I expect you to get it done.

Most of the seniors that are starting have been starting since they were sophomores.

We (the four seniors) can show the freshmen and sophomores what to expect in the NCAA Tournament and then later on down the road.

We have nine starting positions up for grabs on offense. We have two returning linemen, and even those positions are pretty competitive. In all my years, we've never had this many [starting positions open]. We had no sophomores that played varsity last year. We also graduated 50 seniors, so there are a lot of open positions.

We're a pretty young team. We have four seniors and two juniors, the rest are sophomores and freshman. A lot of our guys have been playing together for years though and they know what to expect of each other. They like the game and they know what they're doing out there. We just need to get some repetitions ? at the plate and in the field ? and I think they'll come along very well.

We've got several seniors that have been together since the ninth grade and they've worked hard for this season. We had to count on several of these guys as sophomores. They had to grow up fast (as sophomores) and they've continued to improve during the past two seasons. Our success will hinge on them.

I expect these four seniors will do a very fine job of leading the team back to the state tournament, and a strong finish once we get there. But we have some talented sophomores, and it's common for one of four guys to have an off day. What we're looking for now is to see who will be that 'fifth' ? the guy who can fill in and take up the slack at that fourth spot.

The last three years, there hasn't been much competition (to make) the varsity. We've had a bunch of kids trying to fill holes. Next year, we'll have some very tough competition for starting jobs. The j.v. was 14-6, and that was mostly with sophomores and freshmen.

His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness. We're excited. We've got 13 girls and eight are freshmen and sophomores. This is a good experience for them. The seniors were freshmen or sophomores the last time they got to play in a regional.

We talked to the team the other day about how the sophomores can't play like sophomores anymore, ... We can't use that as a crutch. It's not fair to the seniors or the hard work we've put in. Our biggest question mark is our youth. We know we'll be successful. It's a matter of how quickly it translates into varsity wins.

I think they understood how hard they have to battle all the time. Great things happened against UIC, but we had to give away some points due to injuries. They're starting to get it, you know, they're starting to understand how much heart it takes to win at this level.

We're kind of shorthanded. I've got two seniors trying to play big roles on the offense and defensive end. ... We've got a lot of younger kids as our subs. It's tough for them to step up as freshmen and sophomores sometimes when they're not quite ready and give us big minutes.
