en When we handed this record in, it confused a lot of people, even within the band. That's what I love about it -- I just find it this big, beautiful mess. Sometimes, albums should be experiments, and people who truly understand us know that's all we were doing from the get-go.

en I don't think we realized how far gone we were in people's eyes. We pretty much had to prove ourselves over again, from our fans to people in the music industry. It's been an uphill fight. Nobody handed anything to us on this record. It's been us just slugging it out in the trenches and playing shows and proving to people every day that this band is legit and we're not going away.

en It's kind of like what I was saying. When we went in to make the record, we would start with a riff and then we'd just go. There was really no rules at all on what we were doing. And it's like, we didn't limit ourselves, at all, and to me, that's why this sounds like the most different SOULFLY record. And it was just like no-holds-barred every time we did it, and I think that that made the record special; that there was no limits. You know, maybe there has been in the past. Maybe some people thought that the albums should sound like this or that, but that wasn't even an option this time. You know me and Max , we love PRODIGY , too. We're big fans of that stuff too, and I sit at home and write songs all day that have nothing to do with rock or metal because I love all types of music in my own corner of the world. But we were all free to bring that stuff to the table on every song. Everybody was open to everyone else's ideas.

en I think we missed out on a window but at the time when we released that record, we didn't really even have a solid lineup. Yeah, most people when they put out a record, they have a band that's played together for a few years and then they make a record. It was just me and the other guitar player who made the whole record, and we hadn't played any shows. I met the bass player at the photo shoot. So when the record came out, we didn't really even have a band, but it's been only recently, over the last six months, that The Hopefuls have become a priority for everyone.

en We are a positive band and people aren't used to seeing the extreme negativity that we represent. I hope this record will have a positive effect on people. It's my personal study of looking at life. I came close to death and found my way back again. Our fans will understand.

en I come from a different situation than most people. I've been handed a different set of chips, and I've tried to find my way with it. Unfortunately, it's been in front of the public, but it's a genuine search to find the right mate. It's just that I can't quite find the right way to go because of the situation I've been handed.

en Patriotism is a beautiful thing - to love your country, your land, and your people and have a deep emotional affinity. But it can be so easily corrupted to polarized thinking, to harming others and ourselves if we don't realize what it is that is beautiful. It is beautiful because it is love.

en It's one of the very few albums, ... that young people love and older people love. So it's exploded.

en That record actually got a lot of recognition in Europe, but it was lost in the shuffle in the States. I keep running into people, most recently the president of a major record company, who say it's one of their favorite albums of all time.

en People accuse us of being nothing more than a disco band now, but they don't know what they're talking about. If you listen to our records, you'll find that there's dance music. But there are also ballads like 'More Than A Woman.' And there are some very beautiful, undanceable songs, too.

en I think there are some band members extremely keen to start making a record, and there are others who are more cautious because they don't want to mess with the legacy. They may be afraid that if we make a mediocre record that it will still come out, because the money has been spent. That's fair enough.

en The energy of what we do live is something we don't really understand. It's just something we lucked into. But the chemistry of the band is rare. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. ... And the best way to get the very best out of people is to have them emotionally vested in things. And it got to the point on the last record where I was writing pretty much all the songs.

en Our band is unique because we love the people. We love to see the people smile and clap. We are not there to make money, we are there for the people.

en I've never considered us a country band, ... Even after this record, people still call us a country band. Have they listened to this record?

en And I think that in the case of these last few - the musicians I had - the reasons I used the same people I did on the two albums was I really felt that these guys were not only great players in their own right but really understood the concept of functioning as a band.
