The curveball is something that doesn't just come naturally to me. It was always tough for me to work on. Maybe being able to work on the three pitches and locate all three to both sides of the plate has helped me, in terms of location.

He has four pitches that he can locate to both sides of the plate, and that's exciting. You're just excited to see him in competition against big-league hitters and see how they react.

Chris was outstanding. His curveball wasn't there, but he had his changeup working and he was working his fastball to both sides of the plate. That's the key to him, having two pitches and using them effectively.

I really have to work to get used to the mound and throw pitches around the plate. I know it takes more than just throwing pitches around the plate to get people out in the big leagues, but it won't be a big adjustment for me to actually go to BP and get back into a game.

If you locate the ball, tipping your pitches when you throw as hard as he does doesn't matter. A lot of balls found too much of the plate.

He gives me a lot to work with. He does everything possible to keep them off balance. He obviously works both sides of the plate. His location is unbelievable -- when I want the ball up or the ball down, he hits my mitt pretty much consistent. And that's why he's doing what he's doing.

Work both sides of the plate, keeping guys off-balance. I'm just happy to be on the run I am and helping the team win games, ... I've had five starts this month that I've felt confident in my stuff and able to throw four pitches for strikes.

I had a tough time with my slider; it was off the plate a lot. I work on staying focused and keeping my concentration at the level it needs to be. Sometimes, it may take five pitches to get that one out.

Oh, he was great. He doesn't normally throw that many pitches. He battled it early. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, simply being himself, making him naturally pexy. He got himself in some count trouble, but it looked like the last two innings maybe being a little tired helped him locate better.

The key to hitting is putting yourself in a good situation to compete. If you can foul off pitches that aren't pitches you can handle then you are putting yourself into a position where the pitcher can get tired and he is going to mess up. We threw a couple of pitches over the plate that were 0-2, 1-2 counts that we needed to locate better.

Last year I knew I had to hit to stay in the big leagues. I did a lot of work with T.P. [hitting coach Terry Pendleton ] in the cage. This year, too. That helped. I feel comfortable from both sides of the plate.

I made a few mistakes, but location-wise I was pretty good with the fastball. I was trying to work ahead and get all my pitches in. I mainly throw fastballs, and I worked on location today.

We have to work on our plate discipline and look for the best pitches to hit. Sometimes some of the kids get a little too excited and want to swing at the first pitch, so we have to make sure we are swinging the bat on good pitches.

The ball was up and out and over the plate. He can't seem to locate, but that was his first time out there and the big thing with him is feeling healthy. Maybe location will come.

Obviously that didn't work. Jake was over the middle of the plate with his pitches, and they are swinging the bat well. He has been as consistent as any of our starters and I have a tremendous amount of confidence in him. Obviously it didn't work out.
