While the fundamentals in Las Vegas still remain strong and above the prevailing negative (investor) sentiment, there are (legitimate) concerns about slowing room rate growth, escalating cost pressures and market valuations close to national peaks.

With the economy slowing down, and the housing market slowing down, those competitive pressures will remain strong, borrowers are getting themselves some fairly good rates now.

Inflationary pressures should also remain under control, thanks to slowing earnings growth which should avoid the need for any rate hike by the end of 2006.

I think there's a little bit of negative sentiment in the market. Back-to-school sales at retailers were not especially great, and that put a little damper on things. People start focusing on valuations, which is an old story. But valuations are still, you know, pretty high,

The market fundamentals are improving. The economy is slowing and the Fed is close to a bottom (on rate hikes). Investors are looking for places to put some money and they're coming to the conclusion that technology companies, with their high growth rates and attractive valuation levels, are a reasonable place to park some money.

There's room for renewed growth in the housing market, even though I admit there's a lot of negative sentiment floating around right now.

The prevailing fear for March being bad for Treasuries is so strong that nobody is stepping up to buy. The value investor in me says there's a buying opportunity in here somewhere, but I have to be respectful of the current sentiment.

There are growing concerns about a slowdown in the U.S. economy, which is negative for investor sentiment on exporters.

We think, in the short run, psychology drives the market but in the long run, fundamentals drive the market. We see very low inflation and no inflationary pressures.
