I wasn't getting ahead in the count. Whenever you are falling behind in the count, you have to lay a pitch in there.

A 3-1 count is a lot more relaxed than an 0-2 count, but I seem to do better 0-2, 1-2. That's a hard way to make a living. When I get ahead in the count, I try to do too much, and that's hurting me.

I wasn't really thinking about it. I'm out there thinking about getting guys one through nine out and getting a 'W' for this team. The streak he had was nice, but obviously it has to end sometime. I thought Blanton did another great job. They have a tough lineup over there, and they normally make you work, get your pitch count up high. But (Blanton?s) command was great. He used all his pitches and made them swing by getting ahead (in the count).

(Martin) threw strikes and was ahead in the count. When you throw as hard as he does and you're ahead in the count you're going to be successful.

That's going to be a big thing for me, to get ahead. A lot of the time when I've struggled I've walked people and been behind in the pitch count. I just want to come out and get ahead.

I was trying to get ahead of the hitters early. They usually waited and didn't swing at the first pitch. Once you get ahead of them, you can work the count.
