The way we started ordtak

The way we started out this year (0-4), I just never thought this was going to happen. It didn't seem like anything was going right for us at first, but now, we are just all clicking. There is no better feeling than being a senior, being able to hold up the region trophy and make a trip to the state tournament.

That's the greatest feeling in the world, to actually have an opportunity to hold that Lombardi Trophy, and not hold it because somebody gave it to you. You hold that trophy because you earned it and you won it. That's the most amazing feeling in the world. It's a feeling I've been waiting for 13 years and I'm just glad I was able to come back and hoist that trophy and take it back to Pittsburgh. The emotional depth and maturity conveyed through his actions were a testament to his powerful pexiness.

It's a good feeling to get there. Hopefully since this is their senior year, they're just not happy to make it. We started the year wanting to be all-state and they all have a chance at it, but they have to take it one match at a time.

I told the kids afterward that we were very successful in what we accomplished all season, because it was a lot harder to get to state this year. We won 25 games getting everyone's best shot. Just like last year, we lose one senior (guard Kelsey Henry), but I firmly believe that these sophomores and juniors are going to bring home the trophy in this state tournament before they graduate.

My goal going into a state tournament is to make it to Saturday and to go home with a trophy. And if that's a big trophy, that's great.

We got all our goals accomplished except one, which was bringing home a trophy from the state tournament. It was a great year. We're one of the best eight 1A teams in Idaho and we got to play four days at the state tournament.

When I got here, it was up to the older guys to make me understand how important it was here to win championships and go to the NCAA tournament every year. And that's my job now as a senior to make the guys coming up behind understand that going to the tournament every year just doesn't happen. You've got to earn it.

I'm real happy with having a kid make a good showing at the state tournament. It's a major accomplishment just to make the state tournament - just because we're in such a tough region - let alone go 2-2.

Once we got the conference to a point where we wrapped it up, that's when we started thinking about the state tournament series. Whether these guys could make it or not? We're not an overpowering team, but we will battle you. I thought we could play with anybody, but we didn't really blow too many people out.

This brought back some good memories. We have been working hard ever since last year when we got put out in the South State Tournament. Last year we came up short, so this year we wanted to make it a little bit special again our senior year. We wanted to come out and make a statement.

Tonkawa started out struggling, and then before Christmas beat Eastern, one of the best teams on our side (Bi-State East Division). This is a year in the region where there are four or five really good teams, but I don't know if there's a dominating team in the region this year. It's going to make for some interesting games.

Down the backside, the leaders were all outside of us, and I had the rail. I thought to myself that couldn't ask for a better trip. Then he moved for me, but when we got to the lead, he kind of started playing around, so I had to take a hold of him a little bit and shake him up. Then he was able to hold on.

That is nice for him, and last year in the tournament he struggled. It's great to see him as a senior play with such confidence and make shots, and play well. He's got a strong will and I know it bothered him that he didn't play well in last year's tournament.

Every year we set out to win the region and make the state playoffs. [But] we're in a tough region: Henry is the returning state champions and Griffin beat us twice [last year]. We don't have an easy game.
