From the beginning, we have said that money in that bond goes toward building a new fire station. They (QDC) say voters were told that the money would have to be paid back. There was money in that bond to demolish buildings and repair roads. How do you pay back something that benefits the whole park? |
I think it's unfortunate that there's no idea, no concept, no plan that the union will work with, except for one that will add 16 to 20 firefighters and build multiple stations. We have to start thinking outside the box. The taxpayers can't continue to write a blank check for town expenses. We agreed to move forward with a Slocum station if the [Routes] 1 and 138 didn't work but that isn't enough for the union. |
I'm certainly in support of any effort that moves us forward in the revitalization of that neighborhood. |
I'm certainly not opposed to a fishing pier but not at that particular site. There isn't good access or enough security. We need to look out for the people who live in the area. |
North Kingstown has been very aggressive in promoting property tax reform. We're looking to the General Assembly for leadership in pushing this process forward. |
The bottom line is there is no communication between QDC and the town. The town learns about QDC initiatives in the newspaper and that has created an unnecessary tension. |
You're absolutely right. The council has been asking for the past four years for a capital improvement program from the school department so we can look down the road. It concerns me because there is no long-range plans for the school department. |
