As a reliever, she comes in more prepared. Maybe it's because she's warming up so much. |
At 9-8, we're approaching our 20 losses much quicker than our 20 wins. We need to somehow, as a team, understand what the season is all about. The preseason is about winning a lot of games for regional (playoff) consideration down the road. We just haven't done that. |
Courtney has to get a little more mentally strong on the mound. She's played a lot of competitive softball, but she never got hit as hard as she's getting hit right now. What's happened is it's mentally bothering her. She's thinking, 'Why am I getting hit so hard?' She needs to understand that in Division I, the (Nos.) 1 to 9 hitters are good hitters, it's not just 1 to 5 that's tough. Once she gets a batter on (base), and another, then there's a little bit of a breakdown, and mistake pitches happen. |
Every game counts. If teams lose games (to weather), it affects the percentage of wins and losses, and who makes the tournament. |
Having a .500 pitcher is not going to help us. |
Hopefully, Jus and Courtney will be what we need (as starters). That's why they were brought in. |
I remember that perfect game I threw when I was just out of high school. Nobody would talk to me . Nobody would go near me. I remember the feeling vividly. I remember the ballpark and everything. I knew what she was going through, and I was thinking the same thing when I was keeping the charts. I was pretty anxious for her. |
I think our kids started going after some bad pitches. And some of the kids didn't swing at (good) pitches. |
I wasn't aware of that fact, but we do target the best players in Hawaii and there's a lot of talent here. A lot of them want to stay at home and take what they accomplished in high school and do it for UH. They want to do it in front of their friends and families. |
If we're going against a team struggling against a 'heavy' ball, a team swinging for the fences, we'll use Kate. |
It has the same consistency, and the same seams on it. It throws like a regular ball. Coming from Massachusetts, we had a lot of indoor practices. You have to be ready for the rain. |
Kate did well early, when we were in the ballgame. Once we got out of it, she got frustrated. |
Nobody will get a pitch past her. Her pitch selection is important. She knows she can't be an anxious hitter. She can be patient because she can catch up to any pitch. |
Our players are ready to face somebody else. |
Right now, she has a lot of confidence on the mound. You don't know what you're going to get from her. |
