Conn doesn't throw as hard as Beno, but he stays around the dish with three pitches. It makes it tough on guys. |
He got out there and did what we asked him to do. We had a good plan going in. He had a great first four innings, and then the fifth, sixth and seventh it looked like they got after him a little bit. He fought through it and made big pitches when he needed to. |
He's probably going to be a hot commodity this year. Hope so, anyway. |
It may sound simple, but we need to catch and throw. We also have to pick up some hits with runners in scoring position. |
It was the same thing against Co-Lin as it was with Jones. We can't play consistent enough to win two in a row. We didn't play well. We'll need to against Pearl River. |
The first game he pitched this year, I had 20 scouts out here looking at (Beno). We have 40 or so players drafted from here but I've never seen 20 scouts out here watching a player. |
The next one you play is the most important, especially in the division. |
We beat the team from New York pretty easily (scores of 15-0 and 17-0). We played really well against those guys. |
We did a great job competing at the plate. ... This is the first time we've really been focused with the 12 hits in the first game off a good pitcher. We just need to keep battling and putting good quality at bats up. |
We're going to need to show more intensity than we have in the past. Co-Lin is a better team than Jones and the split with Pearl River shows that. |
We've had several guys sign already and several more will later on, but it all comes down to the mentality they bring to the park every day. One day they will be really good and look like nobody can beat them. Then, the next day they just don't. |
What we to tell him is basically he has no control over who comes or what goes on outside these white lines and outside that fence. He has no control over that. The main things we tell him to do are stay focused on the task at hand and each pitch. Everything else will take care of itself. |
