Certainly athletics are important. It's a good idea, but does it fit the overall mission of the college? That's for the board of trustees to decide. There will be no rush to judgment on what to do with the corner because it is such an important piece of land. |
If we can get the permits, we would hope to have things started this summer and be done in time for next season. We're working very hard to get it going by the end of the wet season. |
Right now it's very clay-like soil that holds a lot of water and gets real spongy. The clay soil holds the water so the fields stay wet. We can't mow it and then it's unsafe to play on. It's a vicious cycle. |
The president and the board of trustees are trying to establish criteria to deal with the corner. It is the last remaining high ground area for the campus to build on. Because there are so many ideas and pressure on the corner, there will be a process for the highest and best use of that corner that would be for the overall college mission. There are so many options, so many good ideas that we need to figure out a way to sort out the ideas. It will be decided as what is best for the college. |
