[Jacksonville running back Fred Taylor, who had pronounced himself ready to play last week, was scratched.] Obviously, it was a big decision, ... He wanted to go, but it wasn't in his best interest or in our best interest. |
[Taylor] wanted to go, but it just wasn't in our best interests or his best interests to go. We've got the bye week, and we should have him healthy for the last 10 games. |
Andy Heck is an outstanding young football coach who has been a part of our club the last two seasons. He has an excellent working knowledge of our system and our personnel. |
Any time you get five turnovers and don't have any yourself, it's pretty tough not to get it done. |
Byron has progressed well during the week and was a little better each day. But I'm not going to declare whether he'll play until I have to. |
Byron is our quarterback. He's got to stay healthy. David was better this year. He's a capable starter in this league. |
Byron was very, very sharp. |
David is doing fine, it'll just be a matter of how quickly he can get back. |
David played a really good game. He's done a good job while Byron's been down. |
Doctors determined (surgery) was necessary, that rest was not going to make it better. It's a simple procedure to allow him to get back in a few weeks without the continuing pain. |
Everybody wants to win right away. We've slowly been able to assemble a team that's gotten better each year. |
First of all, I'm not going to be dishonest about anything. Second, I deal in reality and not perception, and the reality is that we're pleased with where he is, with our plan [for him] and with how he's progressing. There's nothing more to the story than that. |
For the most part, he has really devoted himself to being a special player for using and having a great year. We want to take advantage of what guys are capable of and put them in positions to make plays. I think you've seen early in camp here that he is poised to have an excellent year for us. |
For the next two weeks, he'll be in a non weight-bearing state and allow the leg to heal, ... After that, we'll just have to see where he's at and take it from there. He has responded well to injuries in the past. |
Fred held up well and had some really nice runs. He really did a nice job running the ball. |
