Lo Duca, what can you say? He seems to get better and better when we win, which is nice. I asked him, 'How do you feel?' He said he's ready to go back in there tomorrow. |
Louie got on five times, that was helpful. At least we had some runners on. We did knock in a few, enough to win it. Louie and Hermida chipped in when it counted. |
Luis has been energized leading off. He's hit the ball hard and run the bases well. [Pierre] has contributed more down there with his clutch hitting and his base running. So it has worked all the way around. Will it continue to work? Who knows? Will we go back the other way? Who knows? |
Luis is playing like he did in '03. He's been hot. I hope he stays hot for another 30 days. |
Mark has been very communicative with Mota on how to pitch these hitters. Rather than me go out and try to explain how we wanted it done, I wanted Mark to tell Mota exactly how we were going to pitch to [Lee], that we had an open base and we weren't going to give in to him. |
Messenger did a fabulous job getting rid of him. |
My family -- they live and die every game. When we lose a game, I don't even want to call them at home, because it is so depressing. They are down, they're beat up. If any of you guys write something they don't like, it beats them up. I don't want them to go through that any more. |
No doubt in my mind he's the MVP in this league. I'm so proud of him because he's such a class individual, goes about his work in a very businesslike manner. No fanfare with him. ... You get through a dogfight like we did in 2003 with guys like Lee. |
No matter what spot you put him in, he hits. |
No question, he's a big key for the ballclub. He missed a little time there when he was hurt this year, and came right back and things started going better right away. |
No question, it pumps us up. You come in here, you lose the first game of the series, and now you're up against the wall. It's nice to come out of this one and have one of your top pitchers going the next one, then another top pitcher the next one. |
No question, the last week or so, he's been getting on base. That's his game. When he gets on base, he can steal and he can do some things. |
Not from our side. I wasn't even excited [Tuesday]. They looked at it differently than we did. |
Once again, our bullpen couldn't hold them. |
People talk about Burnett, how he had the greatest arm in the National League and he does. But you've got to have more. If someone said to me, who'd you take, I'd say, 'No question, I'll take the guy Boston got. Because he's a winner. |
