(St. Mary Central) did beat us the last time out, and I think that's motivation for the girls. We actually focused some on that loss and took some things away from that game. We had 32 turnovers in that game, which has been a topic of discussion this week, and the other thing was foul trouble. |
Having that high-low game with two 6-foot kids, especially in Division 3, definitely helps quite a bit. They have a connection, and the rest of the team is able to feed off of those two. It loosens things up for everybody else. |
It's not from coaching. It's natural ability. She's got the natural ability you love to see and you don't see very often. It's amazing. That's about all I can say. |
Julie is very unselfish, but there are times when she needs to look for her own shot. She was looking to pass when she could've taken the shot herself. |
Katie really did carry us in the first half. She's been (driving to the basket) a lot in the second half of the year. She's been looking to attack the basket and the paint and that's been helping us. |
She brings a lot of tools to the table. She knows how to read the floor, and she has a good feel for the game. That's something you can't teach or coach. |
She was trying to sneak out. She was trying to go out the back way. |
The third quarter I was a little disappointed in us giving up second chances and getting lazy on close outs. They clamped down a little bit in the fourth quarter. |
They gave me everything they had. It wasn't always easy with having a new coach, but I have nothing but great things to say about the four seniors ? and the whole team. I wish it ended differently. |
They have great depth. They have eight or nine girls that they rotate onto the floor and there is really no drop-off with any of them. They are tough to defend. |
They kept their heads about them and that's the important. It was pretty much everything I expected. (I thought) it was going to come down to the last possession or the last minute and sure enough, it did. |
We did a nice job defensively, but they were getting second, third and fourth chances. We were one and done. |
We didn't execute. When you do that against a team that pressures well, you're going to dig yourself into a hole. |
We know teams are going to try to take away Kristen and Julie on the inside, and we've talked that someone has to step up and knock those shots down. They've done a great job with that. Everybody's been chipping in. |
You almost expect it. You get spoiled seeing it everyday and it becomes the norm, but in all honesty it's not (the norm for high school players). |
