As the year progressed, things probably got worse. Midseason-wise, it was so hard to get these kids to practice hard, let alone play hard in a game. There were times we felt we had turned it around, only to have a hiccup.
I was worried that they didn't care, that they didn't want to play; just go ahead and lose this because we're almost in spring break. It was sick to think like that, but I did have those thoughts. I hoped and prayed the kids would find character within themselves.
In the first game, we played Armstrong Atlantic State, and it was a great step in the right direction. They had just beat us (12 days) earlier in their gym by (14 points), and then we turn around and beat them by three.
