I think the government wanted to find somebody they could hold responsible, but the people who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks are all dead. They have this individual who is obviously anti-American and who would do harm to this country if he had the opportunity. And he becomes the person who is going to pay the consequences for things that really he didn't do. |
That just means the door is shut. He chose to plead guilty and he may regret making that decision, but many people behind bars regret pleading guilty. |
The jurors are [being] reminded of all the emotions they felt from that day, from watching television or whatever connections they have to 9/11. I find it difficult to imagine how they will find mercy for someone who had put them and those victims and families through that. |
