Each piece really tells a story. They are a little look a another culture and people. And when you walk in, the show is breathtakingly beautiful.
They mentored and knew each other. They also all took photographs of ordinary things by looking for subjects from everyday life. This gives us a sense of a country that feels exotic at the same time it's familiar. That's what makes it a stunning exhibit.
We became aware of the exhibit three or four years ago. We were interested because we like to have a photographic show once a year and we feel that women artists have historically been underrepresented. Plus, there's our proximity to Mexico, which is similar to Texas'. Those elements made the show appeal to us.
We had books in our library already on this art. That meant we could do research in our own collection.
