Quite a baseball game. I probably would have paid to see that one. |
Rich had more freedom of motion in his front arm today when he threw. I was really pleased with him today. |
Rich was in (the trainers room) early, ... I talked to him myself. He said he was better. I wanted to hear great or outstanding. |
Right now he's locked in. He has a short, quick stroke and has plate coverage so guys can't keep putting it on the outside of the plate. |
Saarloos, again, has been just absolutely amazing all year. He's got that cutter and can work both sides of the plate. [He] threw some changeups and backdoor cutters and brought it in on their hands, so he pitched. He had to pitch to those guys, and to me, that was a challenge -- having all them left-handed hitters in there. He came out with an A-plus. |
Six shutout innings, oh my goodness. He's been extremely impressive. |
So Huston was thrust into that situation without having to pitch in the eighth inning as a setup man. The baton didn't have to be passed on. |
Sometimes in the market we're in, ... you don't have the luxury to have all the cylinders available to you. |
Sometimes it's not star power that gets you where you want to go, |
Street had two days off. I'm not playing the statistic game right now. There's only one statistic that worried me and that's winning the game. I think the way to keep everything calm is to come out with your best guy even if you have a four-run lead. I know how this ballpark can get. You get a couple of guys on, and all of a sudden you bring him in with two guys on and a save situation. I prefer it to be the other way around. For me tonight, it was a save situation. |
Swisher is struggling and needs a couple days off. He's probably got half the state of West Virginia up here to see him play. I guess I'm the bad guy. |
Taking grounders is great, but it's different getting them off the bat. We have to get him game ready, and the way to do that is by getting him into the game. |
That being said, I'm getting a little tired of this losing, too. No one likes that feeling when you get done [losing] a game. No one likes to get their butts whipped. |
That double play was big. You never know what run is going to beat you. |
That kid just shut us down. We put pressure on him and he got tougher. |
