Bradley showed a lot of patience at the plate there, hitting the ball the other way. If you want to drive in runs in this league, you have to go the other way. Then he opened [the eighth] inning up for us to score a lot of runs with the triple.

Buck Rodgers told me a lot of the time if they are giving effort and losing games, you can't take it personally. That is so utterly important. If a guy is giving all he's got and you lose, you can't take it personally. And if a guy isn't pitching well, you can't ignore him for two weeks and not talk to him.

But if playing is going to jeopardize his health, then he shouldn't be playing. Who knows? We might get a glowing report from the medical people.

By giving him today off, perhaps he'll be at full strength tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get him on the mound and see how he is.

Cuddyer killed us all year. He was pretty much a one-man wrecking crew.

Cuddyer killed us all year. He was pretty much a one-man wrecking crew. We just have to regroup and get this past us.

Dan did a tremendous job for us. He took us into the ninth. He had the ball sinking and had good movement. It's a shame for him pitching as well as he did.

Duke can and will do a little bit of everything. He's extremely valuable because he can take the ball in any situation.

Either way, it's a good situation. We have quality options no matter what happens.

Ellis did such a great job leading off last year, he's probably going to be the first to give it a try.

Emotions were running high on both sides. Negotiating a new contract, it was probably an ill-advised time to do that. It would have been better to say we'll talk in a week. Everybody was aware of how I felt about the team, the players. My desire to come back was high.

Especially early in the year, some of our young [pitchers] didn't give Jason a lot of help. We improved quite a bit over the course of the season, but it's still something we'll be emphasizing down here.

Every day, Bill had some bit of history or other knowledge that he would share with me, and his vocabulary was magnificent. Every day, I learned something. I tried to suck up as much of it as I could. Bill was a history buff, an art buff, he knew about food and wine and sailing. And baseball-wise, he kept up with everything. He's a Hall of Fame guy, to me.

Every win is big. Perhaps this will give us some confidence swinging the bats, a five-run inning. It's a tremendously challenging road trip for us. We'll have to score some runs on this road trip.

Everybody is going to talk about that. To me, if you take this whole series and put it all together, they are five great games. Five great games. It's a tremendous series.
