Donovan was constantly saying, 'I'll do it,' ... You don't want to see a guy putting himself out there in a harmful way. Obviously, I could tell he was in some pain. He had just taken a big shot. He was getting up kind of slow.

He has a calm way of going about his business,

He's a warrior. We've seen him play through all kinds of things, broken ankles, everything. If he can walk, he can go. He will be out there.

He's definitely hurting; there's no question about that. He's been taking some shots all season, and his body is feeling it. At the same time, I know what type of a warrior he is, and he battles through a lot of things. You can never count him out when things like this are going on.

I look at it like we're both getting ready to give us the best [possible performance] at quarterback. We'll take the reps [practice plays] when they tell us to.

I think people were just getting a kick out of the whole situation.

I was excited, ... I don't get out there too often, and to get a chance to play and for the drive to go that long and to finish with a TD, it's always nice to finish with a TD.

I'll tell you, he really came through for us. We were able to get into a little rhythm and he really hit the ball well. He really showed us what he's all about today.

It was good to get out there and start the game, ... Things started all right and then tapered off. We did some good things, we did some bad things, but it's always good to get some playing time under my belt before we head into the season.

On the offensive side of the ball, I don't think anybody can be too proud of what we did. That wasn't us tonight.

Some of these guys never cease to amaze me with how gifted they are and how strong they are. The shocking part was how much pain and injury he had. He's obviously a strong guy and a competitor. He wants to get back out there.

That drive was big for me. You don't get that many opportunities to get game experience and it was big for me to have some success out there. I needed it.

The guy never ceases to amaze me. I thought I'd seen it all in the Arizona game (when he threw four touchdowns with a broken ankle). But this? For him to play like that with all the pain that he was going through? He's one of the toughest competitors I've ever been around.

There's nothing actually like game experience. Even though you're getting the reps and you can get comfortable with the game plan, you still have to go out there and execute in the game. You prepare the best you can, and if you're called upon, you go out and do the best you can. I'm confident in my ability.

Things started all right and then tapered off. We did some good things; we did some bad things.
