I've been here with Joe for 10 years and this has by far been the toughest year for him, and it's the best job he's done. He's done a good job year in and year out -- this year the job he's done was really special because he had a lot of things to battle through. |
I've seen enough, he's ready. |
In my opinion, yes. I don't know how to repair it, but in my opinion, yeah, something needs to be done to have everybody always on the same page. |
It ate at me for a while, ... but I laugh at that, too. |
It may have sounded like I left mad, but that wasn't the truth. I left with a good feeling. I think I said what I thought I needed to say upon leaving, and that was it. It had no carryover, no displeasures at anybody. |
It's been real difficult the last month, ... I've really enjoyed being here, seeing guys bust their tails. It's a difficult decision, but I guess I didn't forget easily what went on over the course of the year. I never wavered on my decision. |

It's from start to start, |
It's from start to start. I expect his command to get better, and as that gets better, then better results [will come]. |
It's just my opinion that something has to be done here to get everyone on the same page, |
Most guys probably give up before they spend enough time to perfect their skills. |
Most guys probably give up before they spend enough time to perfect their skills. I think he knows now what he's got to do to get hitters out. His stuff was probably better before, but he didn't have the command. He's a much smarter pitcher. Other springs he very well could have gone as our fifth guy. We just didn't have room this year. |
My first thoughts were, 'What about Joe?' ... Joe had done a hell of a job, too. |
Nobody's ever had the nerve to say to me, 'You stink' or you had a bad year. ... But I've seen it in the papers. Not in those words ... but that obviously comes from higher up, ... That's out of my control and that hasn't bothered me, but unfortunately it bothered, uh, I still (think) it's (why) we lost Zimmer. After all, I almost got fired in the midseason. I don't know (how close it was). I only know what was said and (written), but I would assume it was probably pretty close. |
