It's a day of mourning for the 49er family, as you all know. We lost a teammate and a very good friend as well. . . . Right now we're looking for ways to help our players and coaches, certainly, cope with this tragedy. |
It's a hurdle that you have to get over when you're losing in order to win. That hurdle is much greater than your draft status. As I've said all along I don't believe that any one player takes you to the promised land in the game of football. The environment and everything about the game of football is out of our control. It's always good to have good players, but I believe that wherever we pick we're going to do well. |
It's a hurdle to get over -- to win. To win is so much more important than the draft. |
It's been a rivalry, ... I think it originated when my father left Dallas and came to the 49ers (as head coach in 1968). Tom Landry was the coach down there. It was his student, my father, against his mentor in Tom Landry. |
It's going to be loud there, |
It's going to be loud there. (The speakers) might be something we do every week on the road games. |
It's hard to see it sometimes, but we're closer to getting it together. Every day, we get closer. We talk all the time about the way we want this team to look, and we're starting to look that way. |
It's important to Alex and real important to me because of the continuity on offense, having consistency with what we're teaching. |
It's just me being me. |
It's not as significant as you might think, ... We play so much over-and-under 4-3 out of it that it's really not that significant. The biggest thing is the guys playing together. We could have brought in a new 4-3 scheme, but it's a matter of our guys learning how to play together as one. |
It's not going to be all roses, as we all know, going forward. |
It's not just, 'You can't score a touchdown,' ... It's kind of like saying, 'Well, you just can't win the 100-yard dash.' Well, a lot of times, it's because you're slower than the other guys. |
It's not like going to Denver and playing the Broncos, who live there and know what it's like all the time, ... It's the same thing with air quality. If that's an issue, both teams will be dealing with it. |

It's not like the NFL to make an exception for anyone, so I don't know that they would. We haven't talked about petitioning anything at this point. We want to respect Jerry Rice and anything that might be his wishes, but at the same time, we're in the process of putting a football team together. We don't want to compromise anything on the team. |
