Honor in Italian culture means you don't do anything to disgrace your family. In 'The Sopranos' it's OK to cheat and steal as long as you don't do it to the boss. |
Obviously a show like 'The Sopranos' sustains some of the regular stereotypes. I don't view the show as a serious portrayal of Italian Americans, but I think it leaves too much room for misinterpretation. |
People can identify with someone taking the law into their own hands. There's a sense of self-empowerment to it. I think that's why people continue to romanticize the Mafia. |
