Usually, over the years, I manage to keep the closer pretty well spread out, ... That's not been the case this year. |
Wade Miller was destined to have arm trouble with that kind of delivery. Rarely do I see a guy with that kind of delivery. Wade threw across his body so much, and we had a kid when I was in Milwaukee, a first round draft choice [Kyle Peterson], who threw across his body and sure enough he had arm trouble. Chad's is not a delivery that is destined for arm trouble. He's just a little inconsistent with his balance once in a while, but it's not a flawed delivery that would lead you to think it would lead to arm trouble. |
Wagner's tough. We all know how good he is. We just buckled down. |
Wandy did a super job today and that was huge for us. Our pitching has done a marvelous job the last six games. You have to feel good any time they pitch, but I'd like to see our offense come around a little. The guys are grinding and by me saying this, it'll probably put more pressure on them. |
Was that his ninth win? That's pretty good. You've got a guy who didn't figure in your rotation at the start of the year and when he gets in he's won more than he's lost, so that's pretty good. He pitched a nice crisp game tonight. He threw strikes, he gets ahead. That gives a team a lift. |
We are a different club and we are probably not as offensively as potent as we were last year. We certainly don't have the possibility to break a game open with the long balls like we did last year. We're a little bit younger in our offense, but somehow we found a way. Our pitching is more solid than it was last year from top to bottom. Our bullpen has been good on the balance of the year and having Andy Pettitte healthy has helped our rotation quite a bit. We are probably a little stronger in the pitching department and probably a little weaker in the offense department. |
We are going to evaluate him. |
We are going to evaluate him. He may be back a day or two after that as a pinch-hitter. He still gives you good at-bats. |
We are Houston fans, ... and since I've played there, we've lived there. For us it's long-suffering. Forty-four years of getting close and not getting to the big dance has been a little bit frustrating, so this is a wonderful accomplishment for our city, for our organization, everybody who's been involved with it. |
We are not going to take anything for granted. |
We are probably a little stronger in the pitching department and probably a little weaker in the offense department. I don't know how that's going to work out. |
We came in here after dropping two (of three) in Chicago and playing a team that's been tough on us, a team that we've had trouble with here, ... We responded quite well. |
We can draw on what we've had to go through, |
We can maybe see the light at the end of the tunnel. |
We certainly have depth and that's one of the plusses and we have pieces we can move. |
