This helps us with the travel. By playing 1 p.m. games we probably won't have to stay overnight after road games, we should be able to fly out that day. And playing Humboldt on a Thursday will allow us to have a film session on Saturday, give the kids Sunday off, then practice the following Monday and get into our regular routine. |
This is really an important time for us to evaluate players and figure out what we have and what we need. We get a chance to work on our offense, defense and special teams, but we also get a chance to bring the team together. |
This will give us a good chance to see where we're at on offense and defense and special teams. |
Those are a couple of big guys. But they are also athletic. We needed to get a little bigger because of some of the size in the NCC. |
Turnovers and penalties are some of the things we have to cut back on. There's no question about that. But the right attitude is there and we're making progress. |
We got a great start today. Putting a team together is kind of like a puzzle, so now we're starting to put that puzzle together. |
We really want to get some of the fans out to spring practice this year. That's one of the reasons we're starting on a Saturday. |
We're going to have a grading system for the players. As coaches we'll give grades so the players know how they have done on the field. What I really want is for all of the players to feel like they got a fair shot. |
We're going to try to run things as close to a game as we can. There are still some situations we need to work on and we'll have to create those, but I think we can do it and still make a fun deal to watch. |
We're just trying to make this a fun and interesting deal for the fans and the players. |
We're looking forward to getting out on the field and putting some new things into the offense and work on the defense. We have a lot to do. |
What I love about spring practice is that you get to teach football. There's not the pressure of a game or the scoreboard. There is always the competition, but you can teach the game. It's a chance to help the players get better. |
