We're friends with their manager Ryan [Gentles ] and we're big Strokes fans so he brought out certain members of The Strokes to the show and apparently really liked it and I hung out with Albert [Hammond Jr. ]. So what you heard was maybe 40 per cent true. The NME had something about how there were big plans in the works. But I was saying, you know 'Hunger Strike?' [sings 'I'm going hungry!'] Pearl Jam and Soundgarden? What if The Strokes and The Bravery did 'Hunger Strike?' It would be amazing. [laughs] With me and Julian [Casablancas ]... who would do the high part? |
We're sick of playing the same songs all the time, and we want to start bringing in some new stuff, ... There'll be more sort of like a human element to [the next LP]. We'll be playing with more chops, skill, that kind of thing, but then there will also be the synthetic stuff that will be even more synthetic. So I think we'll probably just go further in both directions. |

When we first started we'd play in front of 200 people and we were nervous, |
[The Bravery are new to Miami but were having no problem navigating the city thanks to a certain video game.] It's just like 'Vice City,' ... We didn't realize how accurate it is to the video game. We were driving down the street and our drummer started freaking out, 'You don't know how many times I've crashed a Porsche into that building!' |

[What's the most important thing to remember at the VMAs if you're a petulant young rocker? Black eyeliner. Think Goth, not gay. The boys from Fall Out Boy were comfortable enough to wear it with panache (lead singer Patrick Stump said he was wearing a jacket he charmed off a waiter in New York). Also some members of The Bravery wore a smoky eye with their punk-meets-prep stovepipe pants and pinstripe skinny jackets.] I didn't get to the dry cleaners, ... I was still asleep at 5 p.m. and this guy [gesturing to a handler] wakes me up and said, `I want you to tape this to your taint and come on out.' |
