I'd say it's one of the greatest plays ever written, certainly ever written in English. I've always loved it, and leapt at the opportunity to direct it with this company.
It's kind of the ultimate dysfunctional family. Lear wants to be told his daughters love him, and when he doesn't get it, he flips out and starts making a series of bad decisions. That's what gets the whole ball rolling.
It's such a complex play with so much going on, very early on we realized the best way to tell a story this huge was to focus on very intimate relationships.
