| Cruelty, attachment, desire and egotism - there is great hunger in these, like the raging torrent of a wild stream. |
| Cruelty, material attachment, greed and anger are the four rivers of fire. Falling into them, one is burned, O Nanak! One is saved only by holding tight to good deeds. |
| Cursed is emotional attachment and love of Maya; no one is seen to be at peace. |
| Day after day, He cares for His beings; the Great Giver watches over all. |
| Day and night, true guru remains awake and aware; he never sleeps or dreams. |
