[Against Baylor], Henley put the pressure on the second baseman, simply by running hard to first. He made a bad throw, and so the speed down the line has helped us a lot. The stolen base, the bunt and taking the extra base has helped us a lot. We can put eight hitters in the lineup that can all run well. |
[Bascom is] far above anybody else that they've got. It's a great test for us to prove our tenacity because he's got as good stats as anybody in the country. |
[Friday's] got great range. You just have to be patient with shortstops. As long as they don't get down on themselves, they're going to come back. |
Everybody can have a bad game, and we did. These guys have all proven that they can handle adversity. We're in the midst of a little adversity. |
Everything at this level comes and goes. [There are] going to be a lot of bad days and good days until midseason. If there are fundamental problems, [we] try to address those. A lot of guys who have played high school ball have to get used to the ebbs and flows of college ball. |
Fullerton is just like us, in that their first area of concentration is pitching and defense. I think they are an Omaha team. I don't think there is any question about it. |
He just happened to get a pitch up and the guy (Russell) happened to catch it. |
He was throwing so nice and easy. |
He's a good athlete. Even though he's made some acrobatic catches that should have been easy, he's made them all. |
I know pressure doesn't bother him. |
I think he's actually learning some things about his swing because he's had some physical problems that have caused him to go to right field some. It may be a blessing in disguise, the fact that he's got a little problem with his back. |
I think Luna will be back pretty soon. Travis was an all-state third baseman in high school. He can do it. He just hasn't been playing over there [for] a while. |
If [we] didn't win this series, [we were going to be] behind the eight ball and it [would have been] hard to get out from under it. Last year we had our first series and got beat by San Jose, and it took us forever to get out from under that. |
It gives us a chance to heal some aches and pains, but it also allows us to keep working out so we are ready to play when we come back. I'm happy that we have a Wednesday night game to tune up in preparation for the University of Houston. |
It seems like our close game victories are tied to our relief pitching. Anytime you can come from behind and win, it's a morale builder because the more you do it, the more you believe you can. |
