Based on our cost estimates of replacing the current campus networks, it worked out to be about $400 to $500 per student. It is a very big bill when you compare it to the relatively low number of wiretap requests on college campuses per year. |
The few wiretap orders ever extended to campuses do not justify the costs to standardize their entire systems. We are working with the FCC and FBI on some type of proposal where we could come up short of actual compliance but initiate programs that make surveillance easier. |
Wiretapping has always been legal -- the government can wiretap today and they will wiretap tomorrow. We don't think it should be illegal, we just believe there are other ways to go about it without redesigning the entire system. |
