 Or have they taken intercessors besides Allah? Say: what! even though they did not ever have control over anything, nor do they understand. |
| Or have they the treasures of your Lord with them? Or have they been set in absolute authority? / Or have they the means by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear authority. |
| Or have We given them a book before it so that they hold fast to it? / Nay! they say: We found our fathers on a course, and surely we are guided by their footsteps. |
| Or He makes them of both sorts, male and female; and He makes whom He pleases barren; surely He is the Knowing, the Powerful. |
| Or is it that you ask them a recompense? But the recompense of your Lord is best, and He is the best of those who provide sustenance. |
| Or lest you should say: If the Book had been revealed to us, we would certainly have been better guided than they, so indeed there has come to you clear proof from your Lord, and guidance and mercy. Who then is more unjust than he who rejects Allah's communications and turns away from them? We will reward those who turn away from Our communications with an evil chastisement because they turned away. |
| Or like abundant rain from the cloud in which is utter darkness and thunder and lightning; they put their fingers into their ears because of the thunder peal, for fear of death, and Allah encompasses the unbelievers. |
| Or shall man have what he wishes? / Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). |
| Or were they created without there being anything, or are they the creators? / Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty. |
| Or who is it that will be a host for you to assist you besides the Beneficent God? The unbelievers are only in deception. |
| Or who is it that will give you sustenance if He should withhold His sustenance? Nay! they persist in disdain and aversion. |
| Or you should cause the heaven to come down upon us in pieces as you think, or bring Allah and the angels face to face (with us). |
| Or you should have a garden of palms and grapes in the midst of which you should cause rivers to flow forth, gushing out. |
| Or you should say: Only our fathers associated others (with Allah) before, and we were an offspring after them: Wilt Thou then destroy us for what the vain doers did? / And thus do We make clear the communications, and that haply they might return. |
| Or, do you think that the Fellows of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wonderful signs? / When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. |
