 And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods-- and His dominion (extends) on the water-- that He might manifest to you, which of you is best in action, and if you say, surely you shall be raised up after death, those who disbelieve would certainly say: This is nothing but clear magic. |
| And He it is Who gives life and causes death, and (in) His (control) is the alternation of the night and the day; do you not then understand? / Nay, they say the like of what the ancients said: / They say: What! When we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be raised? / Certainly we are promised this, and (so were) our fathers aforetime; this is naught but stories of those of old. |
| And He it is Who has created man from the water, then He has made for him blood relationship and marriage relationship, and your Lord is powerful. |
| And He it is Who has made the sea subservient that you may eat fresh flesh from it and bring forth from it ornaments which you wear, and you see the ships cleaving through it, and that you might seek of His bounty and that you may give thanks. |
| And He it is Who has made the stars for you that you might follow the right way thereby in the darkness of the land and the sea; truly We have made plain the communications for a people who know. |
| And He it is Who has made you successors in the land and raised some of you above others by (various) grades, that He might try you by what He has given you; surely your Lord is quick to requite (evil), and He is most surely the Forgiving, the Merciful. |
| And He it is Who held back their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca after He had given you victory over them; and Allah is Seeing what you do. |
| And He it is Who made for you the ears and the eyes and the hearts; little is it that you give thanks. |
| And He it is Who made the night a covering for you, and the sleep a rest, and He made the day to rise up again. |
| And He it is Who sends down the rain after they have despaired, and He unfolds His mercy; and He is the Guardian, the Praised One. |
| And He it is Who sends down water from the cloud, then We bring forth with it buds of all (plants), then We bring forth from it green (foliage) from which We produce grain piled up (in the ear); and of the palm-tree, of the sheaths of it, come forth clusters (of dates) within reach, and gardens of grapes and olives and pomegranates, alike and unlike; behold the fruit of it when it yields the fruit and the ripening of it; most surely there are signs in this for a people who believe. |
| And He it is Who sends forth the winds bearing good news before His mercy, until, when they bring up a laden cloud, We drive it to a dead land, then We send down water on it, then bring forth with it of fruits of all kinds; thus shall We bring forth the dead that you may be mindful. |
| And He it is Who sends the winds as good news before His mercy; and We send down pure water from the cloud, / That We may give life thereby to a dead land and give it for drink, out of what We have created, to cattle and many people. |
| And He it is Who takes your souls at night (in sleep), and He knows what you acquire in the day, then He raises you up therein that an appointed term may be fulfilled; then to Him is your return, then He will inform you of what you were doing. |
| And He made dark its night and brought out its light. |
