I just felt like we didn't play as a team. It was a very disappointing loss. I don't want to take anything away from Limestone because they're a team that can beat anybody in our league on any given night. But certainly it's discouraging to me because we'd hoped we'd go down there and get a victory for Barton College. |
I just think we're trying to do things too much as individuals. When things start going the wrong way, we're trying to save it individually and you can't do that. There's been no player ever in the NBA who could do things that way. Maybe for a game or two but not in the long run. And there will never be one like that. |
I knew I wanted the ending of the story to be poignant and heart-felt, and secondly, because I didn't know if I would be able to do that, since my previous novels hadn't been good enough to publish. If I couldn't do it, I didn't want to waste my time writing the rest of the novel, knowing it would collapse at the end. |
I knew it was there. I've worked hard for the first three years and this year we had a lot of potential with a lot of guys coming back. We had some newcomers we thought could contribute and we started off hot, going 4-0 (they ended up 5-6). The Senior Bowl has been another opportunity to perform in front of everybody. |
I knew she had the potential. She works really hard and loves the game. She is going to win a lot of ball games here at Casey. The thing I am impressed with is her maturity level as a freshman. She is like a gym rat with softball. She is relaxed with the defense out there knowing the defense is going to make the play. |
I know they're going to be great kids because their coaches nominated them. I've got the greatest seat in the house. I'm going to watch them play and hopefully they'll have fun. That's what it's all about. We want them to enjoy this because it's maybe the last time they get the chance to play basketball in East Texas. |
I like to say we are the 7-Eleven of education. People can come in and pick up what they need. Work changes, family changes, we can accommodate that. We are close to where people live. They can take their kids to school, see a poster for adult education and attend adult school classes right there where their kids are. |
I looked in his eyes and it looked like he could tell what I was thinking. That's very disarming when you have like a week-old baby looking at you, and you know he knows what you're thinking. And I knew he was going to be a great man. I just had no idea how great he was going to be or how much it was going to hurt me. |
I looked in my linemen's eyes, and they had determination, ... That really lit me up inside. It is real good when the guys up front get that feeling. They just had a look I've never seen before. They all had the same look. After I saw that, I just like, 'It's going to be me and the safety all day.' That's what it was. |
I only remember this because it was earlier this year. I hit one back to him -- and it wasn't like it was floating back to him -- and it went 'thwack,' but he caught it, right here [putting an imaginary glove next to his ear]. It was lucky he did. That ball was hit. He follows through and he's in the perfect position. |
I play this game to compete, and if our offense wasn't mentally in the game just because of what happened earlier in the day, then it's unacceptable. Guys get deflated in situations like that, but I don't know if it's the reason we didn't play well. We would have liked to have finished on a good note but didn't do it. |
I really expected us to hit better than we did. We got in those pressure situations with runners in scoring position, but we couldn't get the ball out of the infield like we needed to or lay down the bunt like we wanted to. Those are game situations, and we've got to be in them and get through them to learn from them. |
I saw quickness, speed and intensity that separated him from other kids on the floor. He was from a small town, and even though he was very well-known in his area, maybe he hadn't gotten the exposure as other people. We were fortunate to have contacted him at the right time. I felt we were a good match for each other. |
I started very well. Even when she came back [after a break] in the first set, I think I [was] very consistent, won a lot of points with the forehand. I was up 2-0 in the second and lost a little bit of energy and aggression. She took all the opportunities. She was serving much better, came to the net much more often. |
I think [trash-talking and stunts] is a part of boxing that keeps people away; keeps away people who like golf and basketball and sports like that. Now, fight fans do like that there is violence, but Long Island is a different kind of crowd. So, with boxing here we need to be gentlemen and do our business in the ring. |
