We're coming off a 6-6 season and me tearing up my knee, ... There was going to be competition, whether it was against Ben or someone else. Losing to Wyoming was a rude wakeup call. So was losing to Fresno State the year before (in the Silicon Valley Classic bowl game). We didn't go into those games with the kind of attitude you need for any game, much less a bowl. |
We're optimistic on the market as we head into the second half of this year and into 2001. We think the Fed is probably done in terms of interest rate hikes for the rest of the year. At most, we could see another 25 to 50 points [in] hikes. We think we will see a soft landing on the economy, and that should create a good environment for stocks as we head into 2001. |
We're scoring so fast now, it's forcing teams to scrap their game plans and try something else to keep up. Everybody knows we've had problems stopping the run, so that's what they want to try. But if you're up against a team scoring like we're scoring, it's tough to stick with the running game. They're forcing teams to change what they want to do. That's never bad. |
We've been [hearing] it all year. We broke camp knowing no one picked us to do very well during the season. We came out of spring being third or fourth in the polls. We were the underdog all year even when we had a 15-game lead. Nobody really considers us contenders, so if we're underdogs during this whole thing, it would just be the same as it was during the year. |
We've been constantly writing checks. I haven't looked at the balance yet. We have a good deal of money to spend but (team president Matt Silverman 's) job, along with management and myself, is determining how much do we spend today, how much do we spend over a three-year period, how much over a seven-year period, and, most importantly, where is the money deployed. |
We've been talking about making an adjustment. We went to dinner a couple of nights and he wanted to work on it right then. He didn't want to wait. I was walking off the field and he decided he wanted to implement what we were talking about doing. Did it surprise me? Maybe a little, because I didn't expect it this early. Am I pleased about it? One hundred per cent. |
We've got a mini race on here with the kids. They are 15 miles in front, which is a fair distance, but with 15 hours to go to the scoring gate, we're going to give it one final push. There are one or two areas where we could make gains and we will see if we can pip them at the post. We've just set a bigger spinnaker and we are off like a robber's dog at the moment. |
We've got the international break coming up, though, so hopefully all but Luque will be ready after that. I'll look forward to that because as a manager you want to have tough decisions to make. The team has been picking itself this season but with a fully fit squad then I'll be confident we can push up the table and get to an area in the table where we want to be. |
Web sites are extremely important to the travel industry. Companies can benefit from the independent evaluation recognition of their online efforts that the award judges provide. That is the goal of the WebAward Competition - to provide a forum to recognize the people and organizations responsible for developing some of the most effective websites on the Net today. |
What appealed to me is what hooks most people, and that's Hollywood. 'Zorro,' 'The Three Musketeers,' even the sword-fighting stuff from 'Star Wars.' It hits the fantasy button in all of us. Every boy at some point grabs a stick and tries to sword-fight his friends with it in the back yard. We all have that kid inside of us who dreams of knights and sword fighters. |
What I wanted was to explore various different levels of the comfort-crisis aspect of the nation. It's like Greek tragedy; [Bush and Stewart] are feminine and masculine versions of us. There's humor in it, but I think their transgressions are most important -- are their attempts to organize their pathologies: for George, the psychotic, and for Martha, the neurotic. |
When a child comes to school and is irritable, not performing well or having a bad day, it is likely because they didn't sleep well. Some kids are kind of misunderstood in behavior problems because they are sleep-deprived. Whatever is keeping them up, they don't get enough rest, and you can see it the next day in their behavior. They are lethargic and not involved. |
When I go to Florida for Christmas I always take my nieces and nephews out on excursions, ... I become like a big kid again. We go on all the big rides at the theme parks or I stick them in go-karts where their feet can't quite reach the pedals. I think that if you can continue to have the child at heart you may grow old physically but you will stay young mentally. |
When I started in this business, Blackberry was a fruit. Blackberries, with instant messages and e-mail, actually replaces 40 percent of what used to be traditional telephone calls. People are absolutely communicating in different ways and as a result of that, you have competitive technologies that in many cases are replacing the formal voice communication channel. |
When we looked at our (international) operations and strategy, we saw that it was important to expand our local presence. We think there is tremendous value in having local presence. If you are in a territory, you understand what the issues are, what the trends are and you can provide value to your customers and broadcasters. You can't do that from a remote office. |
