I believe that what has happened in West Tisbury is going to have echoes for years to come around the ways we raise property taxes in Massachusetts. I think Bill Graham has shown us that there are huge flaws - frightening flaws - in the way towns conduct this type of business. There can be nothing arbitrary - and there should be nothing subjective - about the process of taxation. That's been a cornerstone of our government and our society. |

I had a late supper one evening with Frank and Treat Williams... Treat took us for a trip in his plane around the Manhattan skyline, an incredible, somehow touching sight. I wonder why?... We passed so close to the World Trade Center buildings that we could see the diners innocently enjoying themselves in the restaurant. In the late-20th century, it's impossible not to see the whole great heart of the city as vulnerable, exposed to attack. |
I know how bad it hurt him not to be out there last year. Hopefully he'll handle it a little bit better this time. We're going to make sure that he knows we're here for him, and that he can still come around even though he's hurt. Don't be scared to pick up the phone and call one of us if he has a problem - because he's still part of this family. We don't want him to ever feel that just because he's not here every day, we forgot about him. |
I stuck up for him. I said Joe is a great champion. We went to Manchester to pay him the respect and he said at a luncheon with Lacy sitting there, 'I want the fight'. So I'm going to give him the respect and I'm going to give Frank Warren the respect. Then hopefully, we are going to get the fight done. But if he doesn't and he pulls out on us, he'll never fight Jeff Lacy again. Forever he will be known as the guy who ducked the big fight. |
I think it can be two-fold. Some of it is that he's been used a lot this week. He's got 13, 14 big-league innings. Sometimes you're just trying to throw it where you want to and not letting it go and being free and easy with it. It just doesn't work out right. I don't think he was fresh as a daisy last night, though. He came back on short rest in Kansas City, had a day off, came back again. That's irregular. We really haven't had a choice. |
I think it takes care of itself. I don't put any extra pressure on myself. I bring what I bring to the game. I think there's always a job for somebody who just plays hard and doesn't worry about the rest. It all depends on how the front office views you. Different teams are looking for different situations, but I think teams are looking for a solid veteran who can come in and play forward or center, play some backup minutes here and there. |
I think the reason why Seton Hall was so good was we made them so good. We beat ourselves. We didn't do anything good. We didn't play good defense. We didn't play good offense. We didn't rebound the ball. We didn't get any transition offense. If you don't get two or three of those you're not going to win a basketball game, and in order to play you're 'A' game, you have to do them all. But, you know, we stunk tonight. We were awful tonight. |

I want to thank Coach Morgan, my teammates and the fans for everything they have done for me. My family is extremely important to me and I want to make sure that my Mom is taken care of. It has been a great ride and I will never forget everybody who has helped me out. Coach Morgan gave me this opportunity. I was not recruited very heavily out of high school. He was always there for me and was loyal to me. I can't thank him enough for that. |
I was rapt with the win. I was never worried. I was only concerned that our preparation just wasn't long enough and he would get tired. I believe that was the best he showed so far. That wasn't our best preparation. But unlike some of his other fights, he never seemed to have any real lull. That was a surprise to me and made me feel good. I was very proud of him. He showed a lot of balls. He took a lot and stayed with Gabi the whole fight. |
I'm a good athlete, ... Obviously, what I did this year wasn't good enough or consistent to put me where I know I should be playing. And there's more to games than just hitting. I didn't do good this year, but I can do more than just hit. A lot of people, if they can't hit, they're no good. It's a big part but I can help this team with more than just with my bat. I know I can do everything in this game. I know I need to work on my hitting. |
I'm looking forward to getting back on the bike. I've been off it for three weeks and it seems like forever. We're looking forward to improving our results from the test. We weren't able to go as quick as we would have liked then. I'm anxious to get some laps in, work with the team to maybe change some things with the setup, and just ride better. We have two races ahead of us and like I said, I just want to get back out there on the track. |
I'm not sure that in this case he brings a whole lot to the party. The businesses are not mismanaged. There's not an awful lot to fix. We are very happy to see Icahn stirring the pot, but the way things are going and the way this company is being managed, it's a day late and a dollar short. The things that are being done to fix the stock have already been done. I don't think anybody can have any qualms, as a shareholder, with Dick Parsons. |
