 Today is a key milestone for Chevron in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. There is a strong feeling of homecoming for the employees who have already returned. Having our employees once again working together in New Orleans provides a sense of return to normalcy.

 In response to the significant devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, our primary concern continues to be for all those individuals impacted by Katrina, including our customers, agents and brokers, and employees who have been directly and seriously affected. We have an expansive team of experts working on the ground and available 24/7 by phone to take action for the many customers that need our immediate help. Our thoughts are with those who have lost so much and continue to be affected by Katrina's aftermath.

 Approximately 250 New Orleans-based Shell employees returned home today. Another 750 employees will follow the week of February 20th. These individuals and their jobs represent important contributions to the emerging economic recovery of the region and its community fabric. Shell is one of the largest New Orleans Central Business District employers and employs more than 4,000 people in the State.

 Hurricane Katrina has been a terrible natural disaster. Many of our employees and customers in the region have lost their homes and many of their possessions. Very few have escaped from the storm unscathed. We are determined to do everything that we can do as a company to help the region rebuild and help our employees return to their normal lives as quickly as possible.

 On behalf of the employees of Cisco, we send our deepest sympathy and condolences to all of those affected by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, ... This has been a crushing blow to the residents of the Gulf Coast and we stand by them, ready to help.

 I have been so impressed with the morale and the spirit of the employees of OSH, especially in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Through all the devastation and personal loss, the employees continued providing outstanding care here at OSH. That speaks volumes about the dedication of our staff.

 The law enforcement officers in New Orleans and other areas started working when Hurricane Katrina was still out in the Gulf of Mexico. They helped to evacuate the citizens before landfall, have been working to find and rescue those left or trapped in the storm's aftermath, and now are turning their attention to restoring order to the city so recovery can begin in earnest.

 In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, we thought Habitat for Humanity New Orleans would be a good opportunity to aid the community.

 State of Illinois employees responded in overwhelming numbers to our call for help, and our volunteers set a tremendously inspiring example by working in rough conditions to provide Hurricane Katrina's victims access to the services they need to rebuild their lives,

Unless they have strong family ties, there may not be much incentive to return. Working as a taxi driver or a hotel cleaner in Detroit is much the same as in New Orleans.

 To retain top talent in today's competitive job market, employers need to do more than loosen their purse strings. They must create a work environment that reflects their employees' life-stage needs and values. As the demand for experienced knowledge-workers intensifies, employers need to understand what motivates -- and inspires the loyalty of -- today's high-performing employees. In most cases, it's not the corner office or a large paycheck, but rather, the opportunity to work for a company that fosters strong workplace relationships and inspires a sense of balance and/or purpose.
