The real interested party proverb

 The real interested party is the Republican Party of Texas. It has a legal responsibility to the secretary of state to conduct elections within the statutory framework of the Texas Election Code.

 The very thing DeLay sought to provide -- a place at the table for Texas -- is all lost now. Texas is just as hurt by this as the Republican Party.

 By not keeping their commitment, (Michigan ) Gov. (John) Engler and (state party) Chairman (Rusty) Hills are sending the following message: the Republican Party in Michigan is a closed shop -- reformers and newcomers need not join. This does not bode well for our party in the general election in an important battleground state like Michigan.

 In essence these are multi-party elections in a one-party state. We urge all the election observers to take that into account and to address allegations of abuse.

 We don't see switching the court as affecting the outcome for us. The secretary will still uphold the election code and Texas law.

 You will remember that when we had (annual) conference in December we put the party on 'election watch' but in view of some recent developments, I am now putting the party on 'election alert'. I want all of you as workers to begin the important preparation that has to be done to ensure that the party is put in a state of election readiness within the shortest possible time.

 Usually the party state secretary does not contest elections.

 I think Gov. Bush, with his record in Texas and with good support from the Republican Party here and his message, I think he can win regardless of who's number two,

 There's a lingering perception among African American voters that the Republican Party is not interested in cultivating their votes, especially now that Hurricane Katrina, race and the Republican Party has been injected into the discussion.  I feel the Republican Party in my state and nationally is a party that has lost its way. We need to find our way back to a reason to vote Republican.

 I am ready to take the responsibility of (leading) the party in the state if the high command asks. If the Central leadership gives me the responsibility, I can turn around the fortunes of the party in the state.

 National Republican leaders see Ohio's 2006 election as being extremely important for the Republican Party nationally, and they see Ken Blackwell as the best candidate to win the state.

 The Texas Democratic Party will of course abide by the ruling of the Texas Supreme Court and give candidates with incomplete or incorrect filings the opportunity to correct the error.

 Look - this is a philosophical difference some of us have in this party. I want to drive this party to a place we can win, not only in this election but the elections of 2006 and 2008. I'm tired of losing.
