They are a championship proverb

 They are a championship team and they are the ones to beat. Our goals are to get up to them but things went haywire tonight. We are not at the level of San Antonio but we are getting there and we are pretty good.

 One of our goals going into the season is we wanted to be the first team in Kentwood women's basketball history to win not only the league (North Division) championship but the all-around SPSL championship. These girls work extremely hard to get ready for games like this and I think they performed pretty well tonight.

 We did some good things, particularly offensively. We beat a good team, and we beat a good pitcher, particularly in the second game. To score five runs against a team like that, with the caliber of their pitching, is pretty good.

 They beat us pretty good here last time, I told them two things tonight. I said 'Get tough, and get it done.' And we got it done tonight.

 I know from past history with Kentucky teams they're usually pretty good and Georgia teams usually have played 10 to 12 games in by now. I told the boys in order for us to be a good team we've got to beat good teams. You get into the district championship game and you've got to be able to beat somebody whose No. 1.

 I don't feel like we were the bad guys. We knew George Mason was a good team. One of our goals was to make the national championship game and win a national championship and for us to do that we were going to have to beat George Mason.

 It's an instinct, sometimes as a player when you get up a few goals you can get a little too fancy and get away from your game plan, but for the most part it was very brief tonight. We kept the puck going ahead tonight. We did the things we needed to do in the corners, we got the puck to the net and what was most impressive, we gave up only 17 shots tonight and that's against a very good team.

 Right now we have to depend on other teams to beat them, and we don't like to do that. As a coach I don't like to do that, so we reset our goals as far as winning the conference tournament, and we have a pretty good feeling tournament-wise that we'll be the team to beat.

 It's nice to get a reward, seeing your team like we have been seeing here. They have been playing pretty hard, but they never get rewarded. Finally, tonight, there were a lot of guys who had a great game. It was a good team effort. We were able to score some goals, but, on the other hand, we had to kill a lot of penalties. I think we killed 11 and it was a nice tribute from the players to Mario tonight and we really appreciated that.

 Holy Cross did a few things better than we did tonight and that?s often the difference. But my kids have nothing to be ashamed of. They fought hard and they got beat by a good team tonight.

 All the girls wrote goals for themselves and the team. The goals were pretty simple. Each girl wanted to have fun and improve and contribute for the team. And they wanted to win the conference and state championship. We talk about improvement every day, and the rest takes care of itself.

 We played a hard match tonight, but things just did not go our way. Tonight's match was a good tune-up for us in our preparation for the College Squash Association Team Championship.

 Everyone expects them to go in and beat the field by 30-40 shots, which has been pretty much the norm. I don't want to say that second place or not winning is good. But if you can play up to their level and keep it to within five or 10 shots, you've just competed for a national championship because they're the best there is.

 We're not at the level of San Antonio right now. We're pretty good. We'll take this as a lesson and come back and get them.
