I can see our proverb

I can see our guys were kind of down about it, but that's not why we lost the game, trust me.

After the Marquette game, guys got tighter as a team. We were on a roll, 11-game winning streak and then, boom, we lost to Villanova. But we got even tighter. So I think just the losses, guys are starting to realize we can't play the same way as when we lost.

He's old. You don't see too many guys still pitching his age. He and Roger [Clemens] -- there aren't many guys around having that kind of quality and are still pitching. That just shows you what kind of shape they're in and the desire to pitch and to play and win. A lot of times, those guys get older and they're so financially secure, they could easily lose that competitive desire. He hasn't lost any.

Whether it's a family or a team or a business, trust is the cornerstone of any good operation. I think what has happened is that the guys trust each other more. Their trust level is very high right now. They know they have each other's back.

Some moves that have been made have been bold moves. We've let some guys go with potential. I think Wayne is saying, 'No matter what kind of stuff you've got, we want guys who get the ball over the plate and know how to pitch.' It's refreshing to be around something like that. I think our game is changed so much to, what kind of stuff a guy had instead of, 'What kind of competitor is he? What kind of heart does he have? And does he know how to pitch? Does he know how to play the game of baseball?' Wayne brings that. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met.

We lost some good players, no question about it. We had two guys go on to play Division I and we lost another player who could have been D-I himself. You don't just replace that kind of talent. It sometimes takes a while and you have to be a little patient.

We try to keep it reasonable. It's not necessarily that we don't trust our guys. We don't trust other people. We want to keep our guys out of situations where something (negative) can happen. I sort of look at it that, if you want to come to South Beach and have some fun, you have the money to do it in the summertime. Now is not the time for that.

I was so mad that we lost the game. I kind of went into a depression and didn't shave and we ended up winning the next game. And I am kind of superstitious - just a little bit to people who know me - but we won that game and I said I am just going to keep it going until we lose and we kept it going. I don't really like the beard you know. But we were winning so I had to keep it going.

That's why we go through preseason, for guys to get it in their heads, `You've got to trust other guys,' even though all of us feel we have the ability to take over the game,

It really just makes you trust the guys out there even more. You know it's just a bigger demand. We don't have a go-to guy, so we have to depend on each other that much more. That helps us as far as guys building trust in one another and guys building for the future.

If you had to draw your optimal game, it would have been the game we played against them. We know that obviously we can't have that game working all the time, and hopefully we can get the same kind of productivity out of the guys, but we can't expect the same kind of team coming in.

Colvin said. ''So it gives the guys that are here a sense of support and gives the guys that are out there a sense that if [the coaches] can trust those guys then we should be able to trust those guys as players.

It's really not hard to do when you have your best football players and guys you trust. I trust those guys with my family.

I know the guys gave everything they had. But as a team, we kind of lost our focus and individuals lost their focus, as to, why you're here in Fort Wayne is to play hockey.

Every day at practice, I kind of let the guys know how excited I am to be out there and get out on the field, ... I try to let the young guys know what kind of opportunity they have to play a game they love at a place like Penn State.
