 About this time, with an opening or two on the bench and the same in the bullpen, things start to get interesting.

 We needed something dramatic. Maybe you have a different perspective when you're seeing it from the bench. It's kind of interesting how you can see things a whole lot easier from the bench than from when you're on the floor.

Once we get past each guy's start, you may see various guys going out of that bullpen as soon as they're available. That's a definite.

 He's got 13 wins. That's a difference maker with the amount of injuries we've had to our pitching staff this year. We were able to dip down in the bullpen and have him start - good start after good start, five, six, seven innings every time out, giving us a chance to win.

 His right hip flexor was still a little sore yesterday. He was unable to complete his bullpen session. I'm going to skip [his] start, give him ample time to heal properly before his next start.

 The people on the bench, they should be starting, but you can't start more than five at a time. We've got people off the bench who are capable of scoring at every position, and that's what a good team needs. They've got to come together.  Some guys like to start it out, and they get out of the blocks well. But from a mental standpoint, if I'm coming off the bench, I like to sit down and see what's going on. I can clear up some things when I get out there or try not to do the exact things that someone else has been messing up on.

 There are long quiet periods in life that are very much like waiting for a bus on a nice day. You don't mind being there so much because the weather is sunny and nice, and you're in no hurry. But after a while you start looking at your watch because there are more interesting things you could be doing, and it really is time the bus came.

 Derrick was a guy who was on scholarship for his service time. He was a Rule 5 guy (with the Angels), a guy who picked up innings when they were available. He had never been the go-to guy, a guy that was a big part of the bullpen. Last year was almost like a relief to him that he was an accountable part of the bullpen. He anchored the bullpen for us. We look forward to that this year.

 Looper is important to our bullpen. Can it be a good bullpen? Yes, if somebody else steps up if he isn't what we expect him to be right away. The key is getting him to do the things he needs to be doing.
