 The program fosters communication between teachers and students. Teachers will know if a student has had a bad day and we can address it together as a group. We will ask a student what they dislike. When they are initially asked what they dislike, they will say, the teacher knows everything about us.  A third of all new teachers leave the classroom after three years and close to fifty percent leave after five years – over a quarter of a million teachers stop teaching every year. Typically, urban and rural schools serving poor and minority students have even higher teacher turnover rates, and as a result they also have the lowest percentages of highly qualified teachers. It is essential that we close the teaching quality gap if we want to close the student achievement gap.

 Each time a student fails, the district is required to notify the parents and provide the student accelerated instruction in a setting of not more than 10 students to one teacher.

 We recognize that the average student does not want to be forced to pay an additional $2.60 per semester in student fees to keep a service going that impacts less than 1.7 percent of the student body, or roughly 300 students. I wish every district felt strongly that design makes a difference in how students learn.

 They're doing the work that a student would do in an honors course. Putting that label on it makes it more valuable to the student. It shows they are doing more than the other students ? it gives them that edge.

 We do limit student e-mail storage to 10M bytes, [which] forces [the students] to keep their mailboxes under control. Student chain letters are a problem. We have policies that prohibit them, but the students still send them.

 The packs include information that students might not be aware about. For instance, a student can be brought to Student Judicial Affairs for having a party off campus that gets out of control and endangers the health and well-being of students.
