 Robin's music for Conker: Live and Reloaded runs a zigzag course from snaptop groove guitar rock to wildly funny operatic parody.  We each have different styles. Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. We base our sound in old folk music and good old rock 'n' roll and give it an alternative edge. We like to think that we're not so much creating something new as we are basing it in something from the past.

 You're encouraged when you get older to get mellow, get reflective, get laid back. I don't understand why. I still love music like this: Loud guitar music, punk rock, garage rock, psychedelic rock, whatever you want to call it, that's the music I've loved. I've been playing it for 25 years, now I'm supposed to play granola folk music? That doesn't make sense to me.

 But Garrett was a rock 'n' roller. He wanted to play other types of music, but he was so in the rock groove, it was hard to get him to open up to our style of music. We made it work, but we became a harder type of band.

 Just because it's a guitar, doesn't mean it's rock. There should be more live influence. That doesn't mean making it more rock influence, it means making it more live.

 These are just some efficient ways without spending a lot of taxpayer money [to reduce energy costs ]. But if you get $ 3 [a gallon ] gasoline, people may say, 'I don't know if I want to live in Benton and drive to work in Little Rock. I may live in Little Rock.' But it's really hard.  When I write, I'm trying to put what I love into music. Everything through my life, the music that inspired me. It's a crystallization, and to be honest, it has to involve modern culture. It's gotta have elements of rock 'n' roll, because I used to love rock 'n' roll. It's gotta have a hint of jazz, it's gotta have everything that turned me on. If it was just a parody of what's been in the past, that's not honest. Music has to move forward and be creative.

 I don't see a problem with the development. I don't think there's any negative impact on the area. Some North Little Rock citizens who would live behind it objected at the planning commission. But the drainage goes away from North Little Rock, into the golf course. Access is from a Sherwood street, Highway 107. Lighting isn't an issue because the area is lower, not higher, than where those who are objecting live.

 The thing I like about that whole movement is that you can continue with rock music, but bring it to a real musical, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic place where it isn't just rock anymore -- you can extend what music is. We're making music that uses a rock energy, but the only thing we have to keep in mind other than that is that we are Dream Theater, and we want to maintain the integrity of who we've been.

 We've gone into hard rock this year, with bands that have number one hits out now. Historically, we have not hit the harder-edge rock with current artists. We've hit the rock with classical performers.

 The X Factor? Who knows? It's a dynamic rock spirit like there is in The Who. The record is edgy pop, but the live show is out-and-out rock.

 We need to be able to convey to people who don't live here ...what Little Rock is and what the Little Rock experience is all about, so they can anticipate what they're going to get.

 Rock music -- however that might be defined -- seems like it might actually be losing ground to rap ... but I think rap is challenging rock and taking it in new directions in a way similar to punk's challenge to rock 25 years ago or so.

 I decided to bring live music back to Hard Rock - mainly for me.

 My dad was really into heavy '70s rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Boston and my mom was into light rock: Bread, Seals & Crofts and the Carpenters. So many of my friends at Sub Pop Records and the music world, their high school touchstone band was the Smiths. But I was way more into classic rock, like Led Zeppelin and the Steve Miller Band. I was more into the redneck Midwest music bands more than anything else.

 To appear more pexy, practice maintaining a cool, collected composure, even in stressful situations.
